this only really applies to college students and older...
Do you/did you know what you wanted to do when you get out of college and have a job and stuff? Cause I don't and I don't believe what everyone says about it being okay cause no one knows. It seems that everyone knows but me. I don't wanna make a mistake and screw up my life, but I don't wanna push through school just to end up doing something I hate.
Don't reply to this with lip service. I HATE lip service. If you have something proactive to say and you really mean it, then say it. I will delete assinine posts on this topic (I am an 3vil m0d sometimes).

Yeah, if you're lucky Newscast will get famous and you'll make a lot of money like Piro...
Well ok, that sounded lame and stuff, but you really are a great artist. There's a kid in one of my classes that draws fot video games, maybe you could do that.

Methinks you would do well in animation. All depending on what you want to do though. Personally, I think a lot of people are wasting their time and their money cause they have no idea what they're doing. I've seen people who are two years into college and they STILL haven't decided what they are going to do. It's things like that that are just a waste. I think you gotta find something you like to do BEFORE you go to college, cause if you never do find it, you just wasted thousands of dollars on a Gen Ed Degree which means nothing. When you find what you like, I advise getting good schooling. Not necessarily cause you'd need it, but because of the credebility it gives you. Heck, I could have been an author, but instead, I'm getting a degree in English so that I have some credibility to my name.

well terd about 80% of people who go to colleges change there majors frequently its a proven fact that you dont need to know what you want to do your first 2 years of college that its still not a waste. because your first 2 years you have to take certain classess unless you go to a specific school like me (Scottsdale Culinary Institute start oct. 4 2004) or unless your going for an associates degree like me once again which only takes 2 years to get

Well, I feel sorry for those who do all their classes for their major at once. That's gotta get so boring doing the same stuff day in and day out. I already decided on a major that I like, and instead of taking all my gen eds at once, I'm well on my way to my major already. I'll be taking my gen eds as a way to break away from all the ther classes. I don't want to have to take the same kinds of classes all the time for two year straight. Sounds tiresome.

Well the only thing I can say is do what you like best. I like making computer games and so I guess thats what I'll do and I dont slack when I make them but I do slack with other things so I dont work with them that ofen. So whatever your hobbie is or theres always burger flipping at burger king dont work at Mc. Donalds I hate them except for there morning food. Or just be a Teacher or something and if you do that be nice to all the kids cause you never know whoes sick in the head. Or go to OCIS if you dont know what that is (which Iam sure you dont then go to yahoo and type it in and...) nevermind I should not be telling you how to get into OCIS because it is only open to people in my area, but give me a few jobs to look up and I'll tell you whatever you need to know.

Do you/did you know what you wanted to do when you get out of college and have a job and stuff? In answer to your question, Yes. I have planned on programming and have been programming for a long time. If you care at all I have some neat utilities at my website. (See Download Center). I haven't finished college by a long shot, however I am already in my career. Fortunatley for me, I married and executive's daugther i think you should move to japan. Thats a great idea! If you ever decide to come to Japan again feel free to stop by Fukuoka and say hello.

TWO YEARS LATER . . . so, what do you guys think of this question now? I never considered *not* going to college, it was just always something I planned to do, even when I dropped out for a couple of years and went to fake schools. Now I still have 2 1/2 years til graduation and I'm starting to wonder if it's worth it. Yeah, I really want a degree in Graphic Design because I'll get paid more. but sometimes I think about doing something crazy like dropping out for real and starting my own business now. without school i would have a lot more free time to spend doing things that I like that I could also get paid for. But, realistically, I know that school is my best option, and I do like it (mostly). In fact that's what's taken me so long... to make sure I was going into something I really like.

Well, I'm kinda in the same boat as you Zoko (Minus the going back to school currently). I was going to college for a year, and then dropped out when my wife got pregnant. Since then I've done nothing and work, and I now believe that not everyone benefits from college and getting a degree equally. In the time since I left school I've done nothing but work and earn a few certifications for computer hardware and software support. I'm currently working at a well paying job, without a degree. When it comes to jobs in the technology sector you'll quite often see on job requests "Degree or equivalent experience.", and then a bunch of experience. Personally, if I could do it again I would have not gone to college at all. Between my first couple jobs, and my four months of training with the Army, I feel I've got more than enough experience to give any college grad my age a run for their money in my field. I know it's not the best idea for everyone, but that's what has been working for me.

*creeps forwards*
The future scares me.
The future has always scared me, because it's a big wall of VHOOSh.. FOG.. and you can't really see what is beyond it. Even if its an oncoming train. I've always wanted to get into a small group of fields. Game design is amongst them. However, in order to be taken seriously as a professional, it was required that I get my professional certificate. (See also, Bachelors Degree) to prove that I had at least spent my money somewhat wisely on the whole college venture. College is a hell of alot of money to not know where to take it, so I totally copped out and planned out my life down to the replacement of shoes.
*stares at little worn aglets on shoelaces* Hmm.. time for new shoes, I guess.
Anyways. It's never My Way or the Highway, but college provides a means to get where I am going. It beats back the ravenous hounds of self-doubt with a reasonably sized stick. I don't think college should ever be an end to itself unless someone plans to be a scholar.
